Huli Huli chicken means "turn-turn" and is a delicious Hawaiian barbecue.
It is seen throughout the Hawaiian Islands at luaus (both commercial and at home), parties, road side stands, local fund raisers and casual get togethers.
This is a popular staple. Easy to prepare and enjoy at home. Your friends and family will crave a visit to the islands after tasting this treat.
Ingredients:
4-5 lbs chicken halves or quarters 1/3 cup ketchup 1/3 cup Shoyu or soy sauce 1/2 cup brown sugar 3 tablespoons white wine or chicken broth 1 finger ginger root, crushed 1 clove garlic, crushed
Preparation:
-Combine ketchup, soy sauce, brown sugar, wine, ginger root, and garlic. Stir well.
-Place chicken on grill.
-Baste and turn the chicken every 5 minutes, 30-40 minutes total, or until chicken is done.
Pair your chicken with some sticky rice and Hawaiian potato salad and you have a meal!
Huli Huli Sauce
You can use this delightful BBQ sauce on many other meats. It is wonderful on pork, beef and shrimp.
