Ahi Poke Recipe
A delicious taste of Hawaii, perfect as an appetizer.
An ahi poke recipe (pronounced poh-kay) is a true delight. It's origins date back to fisherman bringing in their catch and seasoning it with whatever ingredients they had on hand.
Today it is a staple at home, the local grocery store, as well as the finest restaurants. It is the Hawaiian version of Japanese sashimi.
Be sure to use the finest ahi tuna that you can find, preferably sushi grade.
1 1/2 lbs fresh ahi tuna, cut into cubes or strips
1 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1/2 cup sliced sweet onion
2 T sesame oil
Hawaiian salt (or kosher salt) and pepper to taste
Season ahi tuna with Hawaiian salt. Add remaining ingredients, mix well and chill for at least 1 hour before serving. Serve as an appetizer or side dish.
Hawaiian poke is easy to make and tastes delicious. It will easily be one of the favorites at any Hawaiian meal you create.
